Frequently asked questions

1. If I Buy One Whippy TempoMaster® Do I Need to Buy More Later Down the Road

We want to clarify that only one Whippy TempoMaster® is necessary to improve your swing. While our website may have unintentionally suggested otherwise, we recommend starting with just one. However, using a putter to correct your swing with your driver or irons will not give you the satisfaction you are looking for. We recommend a mid-iron or driver for improvement in your swing

We do offer a full set to give users the option to train with the club that best suits their practice goals or swing needs. The decision to purchase more than one is entirely up to the golfer.

If you're unsure which Whippy is right for you, we're happy to help determine the best option based on a conversation about your swing and the specific flaws you'd like to address

2. This club is so flexible will I hit myself in the head with it?

No, The Whippy TempoMaster® is super flexible, but it is not dangerous. This club, along with any other club, should not be swung in the direction of another person. In over 33 years, there has not been a player who has hit themselves with this club due to the shaft flexing. George "The Animal" Slupski, a national long drive professional, the strongest guy we have seen swing the came close on his follow-through.

3. I can't hit my regular clubs so how am I ever going to hit The Whippy?

This is by far one of the most common questions we receive. Our answer is, if you can hit The Whippy TempoMaster®, you will be able to hit your clubs. If you think it feels strange or looks weird, then you are the person it will help the most.

Odds are you have not been able to feel your swing with your regular equipment. The Whippy TempoMaster is designed so you feel exactly where your swing is. This is good, it means it is working. As you swing more and more with the Whippy, you will be able to get better with it, and your regular clubs will just be a walk in the park.

The weird flexible feel should encourage you to use it more.

4. I'll wrap this thing around my neck

No, you absolutely won’t wrap The Whippy TempoMaster® around your neck. While the shaft is extremely flexible, it’s designed that way for a reason—to help you feel the swing.

Once you understand how to apply power correctly to the clubhead, improvement becomes natural. You’ll not only learn more about the golf swing but, more importantly, about your swing.

The key swing thought is this: swing the Whippy as hard and fast as you can without stressing the shaft. The shaft, like any golf shaft, will bend naturally. The flexible shaft of the Whippy shows you when you try to swing the club incorrectly. It will flex when a normal shaft would have let you get away with it. This means no bending at takeaway, at the transition from back swing back down, or during your follow-through.

5. Will The Whippy TempoMaster® help me finish my swing?

With the flexible shaft of The Whippy TempoMaster®, if you try to stop the club at impact or just after impact, it will flex dramatically. The club head will want to keep going with the speed and energy it has stored. This causes you to keep turning until the energy of the club naturally dissipates.

What you will feel is a nice and smooth, comfortable collapsing of the arms and club over the shoulder as you are balanced facing the target.

6. Will I be able to hit balls as far with TWTM as I do with my clubs?

Striking the ball with The Whippy TempoMaster® should be no different than swinging your regular clubs. The only difference is that the Whippy shaft is providing you with feedback.

Once you learn to hit The Whippy TempoMaster®, it should go as far, if not further,r than your regular clubs. Once this is achieved that is when you will notice a significant difference in how your regular equipment feels.

In my own experience, I hit my Whippy Driver the same distance as I hit my 48" long driver. The Whippy TempoMaster® was made to be swung like normal and will hit like a regular club when swung correctly.

7. Will The Whippy TempoMaster® slow my swing down?

No!! The Whippy TempoMaster® is not intended to slow your swing down. The goal of The Whippy TempoMaster® is to smooth your swing out. This will not slow your club head speed down; this will increase it. Smooth is quick.

This is done by letting you feel through the Whippy shaft what you do to the club through your hands and arms and what happens when you do not turn properly.

So in appearance, your swing may look slow; however, it is actually quicker because it is more efficient than before

8. Once I learn to hit The Whippy, what does that say about the shaft flex in my regular equipment?

There are so many different shaft flexes and lengths that it is hard for us to determine and recommend a particular length and flex to a customer.

Our experience in long driving has opened us up to feeling the shaft with the club head. Each shaft and club head performs differently. If the shaft and club head hit good and feel good, we kept it. This means one day I may swing a XXX 48" shaft with a 7-degree driver or a X 48" shaft on a 10-degree driver. It is all about feel.

We strongly recommend you try several different shafts and manufacturers. Switch up weights, flexes, and lengths until one FEELS good to YOU. The Whippy is designed for you to develop a feel for your swing and a feel for striking the ball. This will translate your regular playing equipment, which will enhance your rounds and eventually reduce your scores.

9. What is the best Whippy club to start with?

We usually recommend using the Whippy that matches the club—or clubs—you’re struggling with most.

Some players are strong iron hitters but get quick and overly focused on distance with their woods. For them, we suggest training with the Whippy Driver or 3-Wood.

Others may hit it long off the tee but lose consistency from 200 yards and in. In that case, we typically recommend a mid-iron—such as a 4, 5, 6, or 7-iron.

And don’t forget the short game. No matter how well you play from tee to 100 yards out, you still need to get up and down. The Whippy PW, SW, and Putter are excellent tools for building consistency and confidence around the green.

10. Can I go fishing with it?

You wouldn’t believe how often we hear this at golf shows. Every third person walks by and says, “Hey, if you're playing bad, just pull out the Whippy and go catch a few fish with it!”

Ha ha—real funny. Next question, please.

11. What happens if it breaks or I want my own grip

Don't worry, contact us and we will take care of you as customer satisfaction is our top priority. Any breaks will be repaired and shipped back out.

Many customers ask us to put a grip of their choice on their putters or clubs. If you receive your Whippy TempoMaster and this is you, reach out to us and we will provide you with the information to have the club and the grip shipped to us for installation.
